Last winter we folkowed the Bear Grylls mantra of a layer underneath is worth two on top. We put our wool blanket under the bottom sheet. We have an ancient aircell cotton on top and a light synthetic quilt over that.
We've never been so cozy.
(FYI Selah - a bkanket is woven fron yarn preferably wool)
